Gonçalo Mendes da Maia is a highly regarded Macau lawyer, with significant experience in major Macau financings, projects, tenders and acquisitions.

He was recognized as a Macau leading lawyer by Chambers and Partners Asia 2011, being “commended for his ability to anticipate clients' needs. Sources say: “When it comes to off-the-cuff questions, he knows the answer off the top of his head. He’s energetic and proactive.” Gonçalo was also ranked as a leading lawyer by Chambers and Partners Global 2011: “He specializes in transactional work, including banking, finance and real estate.”

In his Banking & Finance practice, he advises lenders and borrowers on syndicated secured credit facilities, distress financing, debentures, ISDAs, GMRAs and complex structured financings. He has drafted and advised on the full range of Macau based securities and participated on landmark registrations on the Macau Commercial Registry. He is also currently acting as legal counsel to two major Macau licensed banks and assisting regularly top financial services institutions, also licensed to operate in Macau.

In the area of Construction & Infrastructure he has advised clients in virtually all major Macau projects, such as airport related works, Light Rail project, HongKong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, refuse incineration wastage plants, public housing projects and civil works. He has also extensive experience in advising owners, contractors and subcontractors in the full range of construction law matters, namely advising clients in post-termination disputes, variation claims, arbitration proceedings, etc..

He is one of the most regarded Construction Arbitration experts in Macau, acting as party counsel and Macau legal expert in several major Arbitration proceedings in Hong Kong and Macau.

He is also an expert in Airport Business Law and Aviation Law, in process of obtaining the Global Airport Management Professional Accreditation, organized by the Airport Council International and ICAO.

In Real Estate practice he has wide experience in advising developers, lenders, purchasers and sellers on major real estate projects and acquisitions, including the related financing and structuring of large development projects in Macau.
