Before joining MdME, José was partner of the Timorese Branch of a top Portuguese law firm, heading the Corporate and Oil & Gas practices, having accompanied the 2006 East-Timor Oil & Gas Acreage Release Procedure as a consultant for several private companies. He acquired a wide infrastructure, finance and corporate experience, that he continues to develop in MdME.
In his Banking & Finance practice, he has advised lenders and borrowers on several credit facilities, secured by the full range of Macau based securities. He also advises a major Macau licensed bank in the revision of their standard banking documentation and assists regularly a top financial services institution with various financial advice.
In the area of Construction & Infrastructure, apart from his vast experience in East-Timor projects, he has worked closely with partner Gonçalo Mendes da Maia in advising infrastructure clients in tendering for public and private works in a variety of Macau projects. He is an expert in administrative tender law and dispute resolution.
In the Corporate / M&A practice area, he advises, on a regular basis, several international companies in their day-to-day corporate concerns and corporate governance issues. He has also assisted clients in corporate acquisitions and disposals.
In the Litigation practice, he has assisted several international companies in their Macau based civil and criminal disputes, including in pre litigation and arbitration submissions for some of the largest construction disputes in Macau. He is also experienced with Bankruptcy and Insolvency procedural law, having assisted several international clients in their Macau queries on both execution of Macau based Bankruptcy procedures as well as enforcement of foreign procedures of similar nature.
