José Maria is a Post-Graduate in Corporate & Business law by a top Portuguese university and prior to joining the firm he was an associate lawyer at a Portuguese firm where he worked primarily in the areas of corporate, employment, IP and litigation. He speaks fluently four languages and has a wide international background.

In his Corporate / M&A practice, he specializes in advising corporations and private equity firms in their investments and business set ups and in areas such as corporate finance, tax, corporate governance, corporate restructuring, mergers & acquisitions and structured & corporate finance.

In the Human Resources practice he specializes in drafting, revision and advising on standard HR documentation for local and international companies.

In the Intellectual Property & Information Technology practice, he works closely with Partner João Encarnação in assisting several international companies with all their trademark and patent affairs connected to the Macau jurisdiction.

In the Litigation & Arbitration practice, he focuses in the resolution of local and international disputes, including commercial, tax, construction and property claims.
